About this place
A bite of dashi-rolled omelette, a sip of sake. At Meitei, the counter lends itself to the easy-going rhythm of an izakaya: order a few dishes and take your time. One visitor remembered the omelette for its soft, airy texture and fragrant dashi. Listed simply as “dashi-rolled omelette” on the menu, it makes a good place to start. Add white fish dressed with salted kelp or mizuna with enoki mushrooms, then move on to other small plates of fish and vegetables.
A visitor on another day singled out the celery with baby sardines. They described the celery’s crunch, paired with the savoury depth and saltiness of the fish, as the sort of combination that kept sending them back for another sip. For a light bite alongside a drink, it’s an appealing choice.
There are fish dishes among the snacks, too. The menu lists sashimi of yellowtail and bonito, grilled dried fish and nanbanzuke-style marinated mejikari. Sake options include Sawaya Matsumoto Junmai from Kyoto, as well as labels from Shiga, Niigata, Kochi and elsewhere. You could pair sake with a small fish dish, or start with beer and nibble on the omelette and vegetable plates; the menu makes either approach easy to put together.
The restaurant is open daily from 15:00 to 23:00. Drop in for an early drink or a light supper. Seating is described as counter-only, making it suitable for solo dining, and reservations are available if you have a visit planned.
